At approximately 2pm on Tuesday afternoon, June 19th, the Emergency Communications Center sounded box alarm 2-7. Companies 2, 3, 1, 50, 4 were alerted for the building fire at 412 North Market Street. Engine 22 arrived on the scene reporting heavy smoke from a single story attached garage, requesting the Rapid Intervention Dispatch and a second alarm. The additional alarm and RIT dispatch included companies 31, 11, 33, 12, 24, 7, Frederick County Advanced Life Support. Command was initiated by Lieutenant Morgan from Engine 22 prior to the arrival of Chief 2-2 and Battalion 901. Crews worked diligently to gain access to the garage area while other crews advanced to the roof to open it up for ventilation. Several small diameter hand lines were deployed to extinguish the fire. Additional crews continued checking the adjacent attached structure for fire spread. The fire was contained to the area of origin with smoke conditions spread to the adjacent structure. Due to the extreme heat conditions, crews were rotated and reported to the rehabilitation sector. Personnel from Frederick County's Fire Marshall Office were on the scene for investigative purposes. The fire was deemed under control within approximately thirty minutes while crews remained on the scene for overhaul. Command was terminated at approximately 4:30pm. The investigators remained on the scene for fire cause determination.
