By Chief Officer Michael Kehne
October 4, 2009

As C3-2 and C-3 were getting back in the city from the accident in New Market, Box 3-36 was dispatched for smoke coming from #12 Hamilton Ave. C3-2 arrived first in a matter of seconds and reported a two story Duplex with heavy smoke showing from the second floor, Command was established on side A of the structure and the Safety Task Force was requested. C-3 arrived and took the Command as C3-2 was assigned Division 2 of the fire building, E31 arrived and secured their own water supply and advanced 1 3/4 handline to Division 2. Division 2 reported heavy fire in the attic area running the length of the building with possible extension to #10 Hamilton Ave. AS interior crews were inside opening up TRK 42 crew was sent to the roof for vertical ventilation and opening up, as the roof was being opened heavy fire vented from the roof and interior crews were placing lines in service. Due to the type of structure with a common attic extending from #10 to #12 with blown-in insulation a number of crews were rotated in for opening up and heating the bulk of the fire. The bulk of the fire was knocked down in approx. 20 minutes with a good amount of overhaul to be completed. Command reported fire out and crews assisting the county FM Office with investigation. Command also reported no fire extension found in #10; however smoke conditions were located on Division 2 and attic area. All crews worked well with multiple task being completed and no injuries were reported. Command reported overhaul complete, the scene was turned over to the FM Office for investigation and the red cross was on scene assisting occupants of the structures. Command was terminated and units were placed in service.
