By Chief Officer Michael Kehne
October 2, 2009

At approx. 1351hrs Box 25-03 was dispatched for the building on fire with multiple explosions. E251 arrived on the scene and split layed halfway down the driveway and reported a 1 story butler building and heavy fire showing throughout the building. Car 15 arrived and established the Command and requested the Safety Task force along with the Tanker Task Force. Due to close proximity to the large two story farmhouse, E251 deployed their initial line on the house for exposure protection. MCRE 709 layed and additional line from the driveway and placed a Blitz fire in service to knock down the bulk of the fire on the B side of the building next to the house. Command reported defensive operations due to structural collapse of the building itself. RS3 arrived and was assigned to side A of the building with removal of the exterior walls and doors for access to the fire within the building, C3-2 was assigned the C side of the building. C3-2 advised with the help of the property homeowner the rear of the building was being opened up by a front end loader for access to the fire in the rear of the building, task was successful without incident. ET34 was in tanker shuttle operations, the bulk of the fire was knocked within 30 minutes with units being held for overhaul, MCRE 709 placed a foam line in service for mop-up and completion of overhaul. Command started releasing units and no injuries were reported. On a side note E251 crew did an outstanding job in protecting the house from the main fire building, there was only minor damage done to the house from the heat.
