By Officer John Arnold
August 3, 2009

As units were returning to quarters from a fluid spill on Interstate 70, Communications alerted Station 3 for a vehicle crash reported as a car into a pole, on fire with one trapped at the intersection of Route 85 and Route 355.

Duty 3 arrived on scene to find one semi-conscious patient trapped in the vehicle with no fire present. Command was established and Rescue Squad 3 began stabilizing the vehicle and initiated patient care. Medevac services were requested due to the patient's condition. Medic Engine 311 provided a protection line for the extrication. Following the extrication, the patient was transported to the landing zone established by Engine 23 and flown the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore by Trooper 3.
