Early Monday morning, Communications alerted companies 3 and 1 for the report of a vehicle crash on Interstate 70 at Route 15. As the units marked up, it was learned that the crash was located at the 47mm of Interstate 70 East of Mount Phillip Rd.
Duty 3 arrived first to find multiple vehicles on both sides of the East bound lanes of traffic and established Command. During the initial size up, it was discovered that one patient was trapped in the vehicle. During the crash, the vehicle rolled several times and the patient was deemed as a Trauma Category "B."
The officer from Rescue Squad 3 was assigned as the Rescue Group Leader and crews from the squad and Rescue Engine 11 proceeded to stabilize the vehicle and to flap the roof. They also assisted with the patient removal operation. During the extrication, Engine 31 maintained a protection line. The extrication was completed in 31 minutes and the patient was transported by Ambulance 39 and Medic 100 to Washington County Hospital (WCH) for a trauma evaluation. The patient in the second vehicle was evaluated by Ambulance 18 and refused medical service. Good job to all involved for completing another quick yet safe operation.
