| Board of County Commissioners today announced the launch of a new alert system on the Frederick County Government website (www.co.frederick.md.us) to inform citizens about emergency incidents.
In case of an emergency, the website homepage link titled "emergency preparedness" will change to "emergency alert" with a red flashing button. When Internet visitors click on this link, they will find a webpage with notices and information from emergency officials in the county.
Board President Jan Gardner said, "The new alert system is one more way that county government can communicate with our citizens about how to protect their families and businesses during emergency situations. We believe that this system will be an invaluable source of information during a crisis."
On a daily basis, the website homepage will continue to carry the "emergency preparedness" link (www.co.frederick.md.us/emergency) that leads to information and resources to help citizens prepare for and cope with an emergency. The pages provide guidance for families, businesses, seniors and those with disabilities. A green button next to this link indicates that no emergency conditions currently exist.
The new emergency alert system will not be activated during typical winter storms or similar weather incidents, unless they are severe. The system will be reserved for notifications of threatening events and incidents that are more widespread in impact, as determined by emergency officials. Citizens will be advised of the actions they should take and receive reports on the status of incidents.
