Just prior to rush hour, units from United Fire Company's Spring Ridge Station 33, along with Frederick County ALS were dispatched to the area of Reich's Ford Road at Bush Creek for a vehicle collision with reported entrapment. Enroute, Frederick County's Emergency Communications Center advised responding units of the possibility of multiple entrapments in two vehicles. Utility 27 from the Frederick County Training Center was the first unit to arrive on the scene reporting a two vehicle collision with multiple patients entrapped in one vehicle and a single patient trapped in the second vehicle, also two subjects out of the vehicle. Additionally, utility 27 advised that radio communications were to be hindered due to the location and topography of the area, portable radio use was at a minimum. Engine 331, Ambulance 339 and Safety 901 were the next units to arrive on the scene. Lieutenant Bennett from Engine 331 established Reich's Ford Road Command. FD-201 arrived on the scene and began to assess the need for aviation. Rescue Squad 3, Medic 2, Chief 3-1 and Medic 23 arrived on the scene. Command requesting an additional engine company from the Urbana side of the incident to handle the landing zone. Initial landing zone was to be in the area of Mussetter Road and Ijamsville Road, pending arrival of the landing zone engine. EMS sector requesting additional aviation for a second category "A" priority 2 patient also still entrapped. Command requesting all incoming Basic Life Support transport units to reposition and enter the scene from the Urbana side of the incident. Rescue sector advising one patient extricated. Command requesting Air/Light unit or county light pod for use by the Frederick County Sheriff's Office. First patient transported by Ambulance 238 and medic 23 to Suburban Hospital.
