Fire and rescue responded to the 5400 block of Hines Road just off of Reichs Ford Road about 3:00 a.m. this morning after a house that was struck by lightning.

Like smoke was seen coming from the attic area of the house when the fire department arrived. Firefighters had to remove a portion of a bedroom ceiling and insulation from the attic in order to locate and fully extinguish the fire.

The occupants were home and asleep at the time and were suddenly awoken when the glass light shade in their bedroom shattered as a result of the lightning strike.

Damage is estimated at $10,000.
