Working House Fire In The 1-1 Box Area

By Chief Officer Michael Kehne
December 27, 2010

At approx. 0230hrs, Box 1-1 was dispatched for the garage on fire attached to a house, Co.1 and 50 arrived and reported a one story rancher with heavy fire showing from the garage with extension into the house, side A of the structure. As crews worked to contain the fire in the garage and protect the D1 exposure, interior crews completed a primary search of the residence and opened up with fire being located in the attic area of the house. E31 arrived and positioned on side C of the structure and advanced one 1 3/4 handline through side C to assist with fire attack, RS3 arrived and assisted with opening up and secondary search. C3-2 arrived and was assigned Division 1 by Command, Division 1 reported fire knocked down in house as crews continued to hit hot spots. Command reported fire under control and scaled the incident back to three Engines and two Trucks to assist the FM office, and to complete salvage/overhaul operations. All searches proved negative, and all occupants were accounted for, one firefighter was injured (minor) and transported to FMH for treatment, we wish the firefighter a speedy recovery. On a side note, I would like to say job well done by the first arriving units on the scene which contained the fire with minor extension into the house and protection of the D1 exposure, also with minor damage.
