| While personnel were busy trying to stay cool, a late afternoon crash was sounded for Company 3 in the area of Gashouse Pike just inside the city limits. Duty 3, the Rescue Squad, Engine, and Ambulance responded with 10 personnel. Arriving first, Duty 3 located the head on crash on Gashouse Pike near Highland Street. The occupants were still in both vehicles and Duty 3 established Gashouse Pike Command. The incident size up revealed four patients and one trapped. Command requested an ALS unit, two additional BLS units, and an additional engine company to assist with extrication and packaging the patients. Command assigned patients to the incoming ambulances as they arrived, while the engine company personnel from Stations 2 and 3 assisted the Rescue in stabilization and patient removal. The Incident Commander tasked the EMS supervisor with the role of Treatment and Triage Officer. EMS 901 requested one additional ALS and BLS unit for transport. Responders extricated in 22 minutes and transported all occupants to Washington County Hospital by ground for further evaluation. All did an outstanding job.
