| A Maryland State Police trooper was hit and pinned by a vehicle early Wednesday evening on Ballenger Center Drive off Ballenger Creek Pike, according to state police Cpl. David S. Most.
Authorities identified him as Trooper First Class Sean McCarty, who was assigned to road patrol at the time.
McCarty was investigating a traffic crash on Ballenger Center Drive east of Md. 351 when he was struck by a passing vehicle, according to a police news release.
The trooper was pinned between his cruiser and the car that struck him, police said.
McCarty was flown by Maryland State Police helicopter to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. He was released from the hospital Wednesday night after being treated for minor injuries, police said.
"His injuries were bad enough or could have been bad enough that he needed to be flown to shock trauma," Most said. "It had nothing to do with him being a trooper. Anyone would have gotten the same treatment."
Police are investigating both crashes, and information about other drivers involved is being compiled.
No charges had been filed as of Wednesday night.
